Newborn Unique Gift Ideas

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

The big day has arrived.  The precious new baby is here.  The baby shower gifts are neatly tucked away.  Family and friends now look for a unique baby gift with which to welcome the new bundle of joy to the world.  A quick search online will show some possibilities such as a few unique gift baskets.  Consider giving a truly special gift, the “On the Day You Were Born ” keepsake gift.

The gift consists of four parts.  First, purchase a book that welcomes baby to the world.  A perfect and suggested title is, On the Day You Were Born,  by Debra Fraser. The book has welcomed newborns for a while and is a staple in elementary school classrooms.  The delightful tale of the things that happen every day on earth deserves a spot on baby’s bookshelf.  Save the cost of a greeting card by just writing a welcome message to parents and baby on the inside cover.  No more perfect gift exists than a book.

The other three items in the box resemble time capsule type items.  Buy a local newspaper on the date of the birth as the second item.  Then, purchase a magazine publication for the month of the baby’s birth.  The purpose is to tell about the world on the day the baby was born.  An issues magazine such as Time Magazine works well given the intent.  Imagine the fun of  parents and child revisiting the newspaper and magazine yearly and seeing how times have changed! As the fourth item in the box, just snap a few pictures and make a picture pack.  Take shots that the new mom and dad might not get such as the street sign for the street where baby will first call home.  Taking a shot of a movie marquis and gasoline price board also make for good keepsakes. Again, the purpose is for the box to be a snapshot of the world the day the precious baby was born.

In terms of how the gift is packaged, a gift bag or gift box works.  Keep in mind that the book portion of the present will be used now while the other items from more of a time capsule and need to be housed in a vehicle for easy storage.

Enjoy!  Your unique gift to the sweet baby will be enjoyed and revisited for years to come.  That type of unique baby gift is indeed hard to find.    Always look for unique party and gift ideas.

Baby Sleeping Bags

You might have heard of baby sleeping bags, a small bag designed for your baby to sleep in. A baby sleeping bag provides your baby with an extra level of comfort, which in turn can help your baby sleep much better. The concept of allowing your baby to sleep in a bag understandably makes many parents feel uncomfortable. Many people are not exactly comfortable with putting their little ones in a bag, but in reality baby sleeping bags are perfectly safe and do not necessarily need to be used for sleeping, they can just as easily be used to keep your baby warm when you carry him or her in public.

When one thinks of a “sleeping bag”, one usually thinks of camping. The term is somewhat misleading due to the fact that most mothers sleep their babies by their side rather than in a separate sleeping bag of their own. While small sleeping bags of a size that could accommodate a baby do exist, the term “baby sleeping bag” could more accurately be termed “baby sleep sack”, which is a thin bag that a baby can sleep in when resting in their cot. For the rest of this article we will consider baby sleeping bags to actually mean “baby sleep sacks”, a warm and cozy form of baby sleeping bedclothes.

The standard baby sleep bag is typically made from 100% cotton and ensures your baby a safe sleeping environment with optimum ventilation. These often involve a zipper to make it easy to get your baby in and out of, however there are non-zipper versions as well. Baby sleep bags come in a wide variety of designs and attractive baby colors. Baby sleeping bags are rated using what is called a “TOG” rating system. “TOG” describes the thermal resistance of a fabric and is widely used in Europe and the UK to describe blankets, sleeping bags and duvets. The higher the TOG rating the greater the warmth of the sleeping bag.

TOG values of the sleeping bag baby will use must conform to the British Standard BS4745:1990. As a general guide a TOG rating of 0.5 is best for a nursery temperature that is already very warm. If you live in a warmer climate where the inside temperature is between 20 – 27 C (68 – 80 F), then a 0.5-1.0 TOG rating is about right. For cooler nursery’s where the inside temperature is around 16-20 C (61-68 F) or even colder, you will want to find a baby sack that has a 2.5 TOG rating or higher.

When buying a baby sleeping bag, you might also need to take into account the time of the year that it will be used and choose one of an appropriate TOG rating – i.e. choosing a bag with a high TOG rating for winter and a low rating for summer, depending on the weather conditions in your location. Although non-standard, it is also possible to purchase a baby sleeping bags with sleeves, although sleeveless bags are far more common. Another way to get a with-sleeves baby sleeping bag is to make it yourself. It is possible to find a baby sleep sack pattern if you look hard enough. The internet can be a great place to look.

One of the most popular brands is the Grobag baby sleeping bag, which comes in a wide variety of different styles including Peek a Zoo animal patterns and many plain designs that are also very easy on the eye. These are sleeping bags baby will be very comfortable in due to the fact that Grobag sleeping bags help to keep your baby at a comfortable temperature all night long. These properties have earned Grobag a reputation as a premium maker of baby sleeping bags ane one of the best sellers in Europe.

The best way to research your options when it comes to buying baby sleeping bags is to do an internet search. While the larger online stores ship products all around the world, it can also help to search for stores in your local area. For instance “baby sleeping bags Australia” if you are in this part of the world. A final word of advice, it is wise to avoid quilted baby sleeping bags as these can get very hot which is actually a potential safety hazard when it comes to the health of your little one. If you are concerned that your baby will get too cold, then cover them with additional sheets or blankets on top of the bag itself. Ensuring your baby gets a good nights sleep is of vital importance. Baby sacks offer a safe and comfortable way for your baby to get the good nights sleep they need.
