Depression In Children – Common Causes, First Steps To Cure
Friday, October 22nd, 2010Depression is a common mental illness. Usually it is believed that only adult men and women can have the depression, but it is not correct. Children can be depressed due to many different reasons. The common symptoms of depression in children are loneliness, lack of confidence, extra shyness, lack of friendship, very little or no conversation with family members and friends etc. If you feel that your children are having any of these problems then you need to address it properly.
The main reasons of depression development in children are lack of interest of parents and teachers towards children. This problem is commonly seen in case of working mothers. The mothers need to go to their offices and cannot give the proper time and attention to their children. This negligence creates the distance between the children and parents. The children cannot share their problems, issues and thoughts and cannot get the proper advice and care.
Sometimes, the children cannot perform well in their studies and develop depression because of this issue. The depression increases when teachers cannot pay proper attention towards their students. The other common reasons of children depression may be physical damage, physical disabilities, any accident, a quarrel, loss of a good friend, death of some close relative etc.
Whatever is the reason of depression, proper attention can result in the cure. If you are one of the parents, you can play the best and vital role. You need to talk with your children, talk about problems, go with them to their school, discuss with their teachers, arrange a party in the home and invite all friends of your children. Continuous working in this way will result in the good results and the symptoms of your children depression will decrease.
If all these things don’t work then you need to consult a therapist.
